Susan Harrison

Susan Harrison joined Mariposa in 2009 as the Teacher Assistant in the RIDE Pre-K Demonstration Project classroom. Susan has a Human Services Degree, with a concentration in Early Childhood, from the Community College of Rhode Island.

Susan has an uncompromised passion for the learning that takes place within high-quality early childhood classrooms. At Mariposa, she works to create a learning environment that is challenging, joyous, and fosters a strong sense of community with the children and families. She assists the lead teacher in planning and implementing curriculum, collecting documentation for assessment, and providing support for the daily schedule. Susan brings many special talents into the classroom. She is always sharing new delicious bread recipes to make with the children. In the classroom you might find her sewing gnomes with children, measuring out ingredients for pumpkin muffins, or leading a seasonal art project.

“To be in a class of four and five-year-olds and witness their joyful play, their growing curiosity and their hard work is an indescribable wonder. I believe that the environment Mariposa cultivates encourages lifelong learners, warm and respectful teacher/child interactions and deep play. A first school experience can’t get any better than that!”
